Commissioned by AUTHOR for our collection of contemporary furniture and accessories.

Sumptuous printed velvet fabric in one of Blackpop’s abstract, punky mash-ups inspired by The National Gallery’s collection of Tudor paintings. Piped with cherry red wool from Abraham Moon in Leeds, one of the last remaining vertical mills in Great Britain. Finished with beautiful dark oak chair legs.

Velvet fabric, digitally printed in the UK with friendly inks from Blackpop.
velvet: 88%, cotton: 12%, polyester. Upholstery-grade fabric: 45,000 rubs. Wool piping: 100% wool.

Why we love this product

The Mary velvet chair has a feminine design which is delightfully fun and opulent.

Its details are outlined beautifully by the wool piping, which accentuates the complimentary red tones with the blue.

This richly coloured and patterned fabric is a true representation of Blackpop's style: an anarchic mash-up of past, present and future, ransacking art history to invent classic themes for the 21st century. Blackpop's 'Tudors Deconstructed' collection was produced in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, mixing details and motifs from the 16th century masterpieces with textures revealed using new photographic techniques.

This chair is an occasional one but also a feature piece in whichever room it reigns. Its high back and royal inspired pattern gives the sitter a regal and assured feel - and perhaps, comes with it the posture of elegance, confidence and nobility.
