This little boar is quite a character and his personality really comes across in his features. It’s fair to say that this is a boar with attitude.

As well as being irresistibly eye-catching, the bronze boar makes a great conversation piece, especially when you divulge the name and re-tell his story. This boar is based on the Celtic tale of The Boar of Ben Gulbain.

The sculpture has amazing tactile qualities, and is surprisingly weighty and cool to the touch. Pop him somewhere you will look at often, such as a desk or mantlepiece. You could even put him to use as a paperweight.

It is important to us at AUTHOR that traditional craft skills such as the ‘Cire Perdue’ technique used by this Foundry are not lost. Being able to continue both the oral tradition of passing down legends and the ancient metalworking skills gives us a grounding and reassuring connection to the past.

  • A characterful Bronze inspired by the Celtic myth of Ben Gulbain - a tale of fathers and sons, betrayal and honour.

Please note: The original set of castings of The Boar have been sold. However, other pieces from the Foundry are still available.

The sculpture is cast in bronze using the primitive ‘Cire Perdu’ technique, in which the model goes through a series of incarnations, from clay, to wax, to ceramic and finally to bronze. The bronze is treated to achieve the amazingly deep colour, and coated with a layer of the maker’s very own beeswax.

The sculpture is discreetly stamped with its number, enabling your ownership of this very special piece to be recorded in the maker’s Owners Register.

  • TO TREASURE FOR EVER

  • In his first year your little boar requires nothing more than a light tickle with a soft duster.

The colour will continue to deepen. To keep the current patination you can reapply a layer of any natural paste wax, once a year, gently buffing afterwards with a soft cloth. Should he become very dirty, your boar can be cleaned using a little mild soap and water, rinsing well and drying completely before reapplying wax. The mountain boar arrives with his own little jar of beeswax.
