Peg Stool made from Beer and Barley brewery waste by Draff for AUTHOR Interiors

Regular price £600 Sale

Handmade in Dundee, Scotland, by ethical furniture designer and maker Aymeric Renoud at his workshop, Draff Studio.

This stool is handcrafted from either ash or walnut using spent grain from whisky, beer or gin botanicals. Raw materials are re-purposed from distilleries and breweries and crafted into a new sheet material called Draff. This stool features brass fixings. Furniture is sent flat packed and assembled using brass mechanical fixings. Pieces are designed to encourage efficient manufacturing processes and to emphasise traditional and simple construction methods. Patterns of the stool surface will vary as each piece of Draff is unique. This stool can be made to a bespoke size, please get in touch to discuss.

Why we love this product

A sustainably made stool

Inspired by simplistic manufacturing techniques, this stool is made to highlight its smallest details such as the texture of the draff material used to make the stool surface, its wooden pegs and brass ironmongery. Each stool is unique due to the differing textures of the botanicals and grains in the draff material which is made from the waste of local distilleries and breweries such as 71 Brewing Beer and Arbikie Distillery. Such a sustainable and clever approach to design. This stool will bring you joy every day when you place your coffee or G&T on it, knowing its environmentally-friendly ima, pct.

An example of Aymeric's Draff material can be seen on display in the V&A Dundee in the Scottish Design Galleries.
