For most months of the year, a throw makes a softening drape over the side or corner of a formal chair or sofa.

But when the nights draw in and temperatures outside plummet, rather than throw another log on the fire, we prefer to snuggle down in our favourite chair, wrapped in a soft, warm throw.

The Scandinavian concept of Hygge has gained popularity in recent years and what better way to feel a sense of calm wellbeing and warm internal glow than to get cosy in an alpaca throw, your own personal draught excluder.

The throw comes in a fabulous terracotta orange or neutral grey, which goes with many colour schemes and will suit a variety of interior styles. The alpaca wool is so naturally dense that it can provide warmth without bulk, and as such it drapes wonderfully well.

You could even wear the alpaca throw yourself as a wrap over an evening outfit when the occasion does not require a coat. It travels well, easily bundled into an overnight bag for a visit to Granny’s draughty cottage.

  • Commissioned by AUTHOR for our own collection of contemporary furniture and accessories.

Whatever the season, it’s what all the best-dressed chairs are wearing.

The throw is made with 100% Alpaca Wool, which originates from the highest plains of the Peruvian Andes. Alpaca wool is the connoisseurs’ choice – known for over six thousand years as the fibre of the gods. It is a durable, luxurious and silky fibre, celebrated for its warmth and hypoallergenic qualities. AUTHOR commissioned the design from Abraham Moon in Leeds, which is one of the last remaining vertical mills in Great Britain.

  • When needed, we recommend hand washing your throw with gentle, non-abrasive soap or even baby shampoo. Lukewarm water is best – don’t use too hot or too cold. Use the same temperature for washing and rinsing. After washing, place your throw on a flat surface to dry. Air drying is highly recommended. Lay on top of a towel to help absorb moisture.
