This intricate box is based on the much beloved nursery rhyme, 'Jack be nimble, Jack be quick.' It was believed in the 18th century that the act of jumping a candlestick was a form of fortunetelling; you had good luck if you were able to clear the candle without extinguishing the flame.

The British tradition of storytelling in myths and nursery rhymes is clearly shown through the stunning gilt detail on top of the box reading, "Be nimble, be quick." This delightful box holds a pack of playing cards perfectly making it a functional decorative piece that would be a beautiful addition to any study, lounge or sitting room.
